Timelapse Of Visual Synthesis At Tedxcph (long Version)

On September 18th 012 650 people gathered at TEDx Copenhagen. During 9 hours a 6 meter graphic recording was made by Thomas Thorhauge. Four times during the event, participants gave over 1000 inputs to create 4 large posters displaying what the participants answered to following 4 questions:

1) What moves us?
2) What ideas do we find worth spreading?
3) What actions will we stop/start doing, based on inspiration from today?
4) What big questions do we wish a future TEDx Copenhagen to deal with – and who would be great speakers?

This shows the making of the mural and 3 visual visual synthesis posters.

Interviews With Ole And Loa In Kommunikatøren.

The Danish magazine Kommunikatøren has just published two articles about the work we do in Bigger Picture based on interviews with Ole and Loa.

In the article “Tegn din Vision” (Draw you vision) Loa explains how drawing the vision of your company or organisation can be a strategic tool in helping you making abstract concepts more tangible.

“De tegner mødet mellem mennesker” (They draw the meeting between people) is an article about event summaries and how it works as a process tool. Ole highlights how pen and paper create engagement amongst the people involved and how event summaries can serve as a strong communicational platform across cultures.

From Napkin To Infinity

Dan Roam was one of the key note speakers at the annual IFVP-conference (International Forum for Visual Practitioners) in August. The conference was held in San Francisco, the place-to-be for a visual practitioner. (Back in the seventies Bay Area was the breeding ground for the emerging Graphic Facilitation field and has been the home for a number of Graphic Facilitators ever since. Check for example The Grove out which is one the the pioneers).

Dan Roam is not a graphic facilitator as such. But he is a visual thinker and with his book “The Back of the Napkin” he showed the world how simple stick figures could convey very complex problems. His key note speak at the conference told the story of his visual explanation about the american health care system that in a short time made it all the way to the White House. (Check it out, its great!)

The visual practice is growing and has an important place in the world, Dan Roam argued. If we are able to create overview in complex systems and issues, we will be able to make much better decisions in the future. If you take a closer look at the graphic recording above, you will see that the most important role for the visual practitioners is to address and reduce complexity and uncertainty and add value to the conflicts of the world.
